Protect yourself
from e-mail fraud
Internet scams are one of the fastest-growing frauds today. The newest
one, “phishing”, involves bogus e-mail messages that look
like they are legitimate credit union messages. The scammers take credit
union logos and use them to make the recipient think the e-mail is from
the credit union. The fraud email usually asks for personal information,
such as account information, credit card and/or Social Security numbers.
Here is how to protect yourself:
Never respond to an unsolicited e-mail that asks for personal financial
information. If you think this may be a legitimate message, call the credit
union right away to verify them as the sender.
Report suspicious e-mails to the Internet Crime Complaint Center at www.ifccfbi.gov.
This is a partnership between the FBI and the National White Collar Crime
Center.
If you think you have been scammed, please contact the credit union right
away at 858-547-7400.
Remember, credit union members should never provide their personal information
in response to an unsolicited phone call, fax, letter or e-mail. And,
again, the credit union will NEVER request you to send your personal information
via e-mail.
